SUBSCRIBER NOTE: Platts proposes to update Latin American and Caribbean Jet Fuel Index

S&P Global Platts is proposing to update its Latin America and Caribbean Jet Fuel Index to include Brazil and Mexico jet fuel assessments, with effect from June 3, due to changing market dynamics.

The Jet Index Latin America & Caribbean (PJLAC07) is currently made up of only the Jet Kero Caribbean assessment (PJAAD00). Platts is proposing to add the Mexico jet fuel assessment for cargoes delivered to Tuxpan (AATFG00) and the Brazil jet fuel assessment for cargoes delivered to Santos (AJAAD00).

The proposed changes would involve new weightings for the three assessments in the Latin American and Caribbean Jet Fuel Index, with the Mexican jet assessment making up 70% of the index, Brazil 20% and the Caribbean 10%.

Platts is also proposing to change the Latin America and Caribbean Index metric ton conversion factor to the industry standard of 7.9 from the current 7.7 in order to maintain consistency throughout its assessments.

The proposed changes will reflect increased jet fuel liquidity in both Mexico and Brazil.

The Latin America & Caribbean Jet Fuel Index (PJLAC07) currently accounts for 4.08% of the Platts Global Jet Fuel Index. That weighted percentage would not be impacted as a result of this proposed change.
