SUBSCRIBER NOTE: Platts to revise North American weighting in Platts World Jet Fuel Index

Platts proposes to update assessments used in its North American weighting of the Platts World Jet Fuel Index to reflect changing market dynamics and the discontinuation of New York Harbor distillate cargo assessments.

Five major regions are represented in the global index, and each region is comprised of assessments of the value of jet fuel at specific trading locations. Each of the individual Platts assessments is given a weighting by Platts in the regional baskets, based primarily on uplift data and trading volume.

The North American market composition is made up of four assessments: jet fuel 54-grade USGC waterborne (PJABM00), jet/kero 55-grade USGC waterborne (PJABN00), jet fuel Los Angeles pipeline (PJAAP00), and jet fuel New York Harbor spot cargo (PJAAX00), each in equal 25% weightings. Platts proposes changing the assessments and weightings to jet fuel 54-grade USGC pipeline (PJABO00) weighted at 50%, jet fuel Los Angeles pipeline (PJAAP00) weighted at 25%, and jet fuel New York Harbor spot barge (PJAAW00) weighted at 25%.

The proposed changes are being made to reflect increased liquidity trading around Colonial Pipeline in the US Gulf Coast, where more than half the US' jet fuel is produced, decreased liquidity in USGC kerosene trading, and the April 1, 2015, discontinuation of the New York Harbor jet fuel cargo assessment, also based on a lack of liquidity. Platts proposes to implement these changes effective April 1, 2015.
