Platts changes standard vessel size range for Gulf Coast Marker LNG, vessel nomination for global LNG cargo assessments

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, has changed the standard vessel size range reflected in its daily Gulf Coast Marker (GCM) LNG cargo assessment and vessel nomination process reflected in its daily global LNG cargo price assessments, effective Jan. 16, 2024.

Platts first announced the changes Dec. 15 via a subscriber note available here: https://www.spglobal.com/commodityinsights/en/our-methodology/subscriber-notes/121523-platts-to-change-standard-vessel-size-range-for-gulf-coast-marker-lng-vessel-nomination-for-global-lng-cargo-assessments.

Following extensive data analysis and market feedback, for its GCM cargo assessments, Platts has changed the standard LNG vessel size range to 150,000-185,000 cu m, from the current range of 135,000-175,000 cu m.

For offers reported as part of the Platts LNG Market on Close (MOC) price assessment processes, Platts only reflects those with a base vessel already stated in the offers for delivered-ex-ship (DES) markets, as opposed to the previous standard, whereby sellers are not required to nominate a base vessel if the delivery window is not within a given number of days ahead of the publication date.
