Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, has decided to amend its methodology for some of its daily Indian white and parboiled non-Basmati rice assessments to reflect a minimum average grain length of 5.7 mm rather than the current 6 mm, effective Feb. 1.
Platts proposed to amend its methodology to reflect an average grain length minimum of 5.7 mm for some of its Indian rice assessments Dec. 14, 2022, available here: https://www.spglobal.com/commodityinsights/en/our-methodology/subscriber-notes/121422-platts-proposes-to-lower-some-indian-white-and-parboiled-non-basmati-rice-assessments-minimum-average-grain-length-to-57-
The amendment is to reflect the grain length of rice shipped from India's Kakinada Port.
Amending the minimum average grain length to 5.7 mm will better align Platts assessments to reflect market liquidity, enabling Platts to incorporate more data points into its Indian white and parboiled non-Basmati rice assessments and providing an improved picture of the value of rice traded out of Kakinada.
The following assessments will be affected
India Long Grain White Rice 5% Broken FOB (LRCAB00)
India Long Grain White Rice 25% Broken FOB (LRCBE00)
India Long Grain Parboiled Milled Rice 5% STX FOB (LRCFG00)
These assessments are published on Platts Agricultural Alert page PAA3000, PAA2401 and PAA3003 and in the Rice Daily and Rice Weekly report.
