Coal
January 02, 2025
Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, has launched a daily assessment for FOB Kalimantan 3,400 kcal/kg GAR thermal coal, effective Jan. 2, 2025.
Platts has observed an increase in liquidity for the 3,400 kcal/kg GAR grade, driven by growing demand for lower calorific value (CV) coal both from China and India for blending with domestic coals.
The assessment will reflect coal with a CV of 3,400 kcal/kg GAR, having typical sulfur values of 0.2%, typical ash values of 4%, and a total moisture content of 46%. A maximum sulfur value of 0.4%, maximum ash value of 4% and maximum moisture of 50% will also be considered.
Details of the proposed specifications:
Specification: 3,400 kcal/kg GAR
Vessel Size: 50,000 mt
Basis Port: Kalimantan, Indonesia
Assessment Period: 7-45 days forward
Platts first sought feedback on the proposed launch in a subscriber note published Nov. 11.
Platts opened a formal decision note on Nov 26, in a subscriber note available here:
