Platts expands Canadian rack price coverage, moves to new source

Commodity: Petroleum Region: North America

Effective on or about 1 October, Platts will switch to DTN as a source for Canadian rack (wholesale petroleum product) price data, which will result in a significant expansion in market coverage. DTN is a major supplier of energy information, and has been the source for Platts' US rack price data since 2008.

Due to the new source, Platts will be using a new set of symbols in dispatch category PR for Canadian rack prices; these prices also appear on PGA pages 143-4, 146-7 and 239. Supplier prices and branded, unbranded and rack average prices, expressed in Canadian cents per liter, will update twice a day Monday-Saturday, at approdimately 10am and 4:30pm US East coast time. For a complete list of the new symbols, including a cross-reference to current symbols where they exist, go to http://www.platts.com/IM.Platts.Content/MethodologyReferences/NewDiscontinued Codes/Codes/dtn-can-rack.xls . Note that you may have to copy this address, starting with 'http' and ending at '.xls' and paste it into your web browser.

In order to assist subscribers in switching to the new symbols, the current and new symbols will update in parallel for the month of September 2009. Once the transition to the new symbols is complete, the current symbols will be discontinued.
