Platts consolidates 'nearbys' and 'futures' dispatch categories

In order to simplify product packaging, Platts has been working for some time to consolidate Nymex and ICE futures price data into single dispatch categories for each futures contract or group of related contracts. This effort is now complete -- all subscribers and vendor partners who received the 'Nearbys' dispatch categories have been switched to the corresponding 'Futures/Nearbys' categories; see the two lists below.

Platts will be discontinuing the 'Nearbys' categories; the exact schedule will be announced shortly. This will involve removing the files for these categories from the Platts FTP and web sites -- ftp.platts.com and online.platts.com (the 'My Subscriptions' area of www.platts.com). Since there are now no subscribers to these categories, this change should be invisible to subscribers and vendor partners.

Platts publishes exchange futures prices in two formats. Nearbys format defines prices based on relative delivery period -- eg 'Nymex Crude 1-month-ahead'. Futures format defines the same prices based on the actual delivery period -- eg the prices dated 18 Jan 10 for the Nymex Crude 1-mo symbol are also delivered via another symbol representing 'Nymex Crude Feb 2010'. In the past, the 'nearbys' and 'futures' symbols were delivered in different dispatch categories, even though they're the same prices. That split has now been eliminated -- both sets of symbols are in the same 'Futures/Nearbys' category.
