S&P Global Platts has deferred a previously announced move of a variety of oil, agriculture and petrochemical price symbols to new market data categories (MDCs) to ensure operational alignment with our channel partners and no negative impact to customers.
This change introduces 26 new market data categories, into which certain price assessment symbols will be moved from their current category. This move is being made to provide more specific categorizations of our assessments and reduce the volume of symbols within the current categories.
Platts has now completed the creation of the new market data categories and has added them into existing packages that contain the legacy categories. The categories are currently empty, however, customers will begin to see them appear as part of their subscription upon renewal. The addition of these categories to your subscription will ensure continuity of service to the price assessments after the symbol moves into the new categories. The transfer of symbols out of their current category into these new categories is planned to take place in the second half of 2020 (date to be communicated next year, in advance of the move). This eventual move will ensure a clearer categorization of certain commodity price assessments.
Note: There is no change in the data symbols themselves nor will you be charged extra for these new categories.
The 26 new market data categories available are listed below along with a grid outlining the legacy category and its associated new categories:
