New York — South Carolina ports saw record high container volumes in November as the east coast continues to see a resurgence in trans-Pacific and trans-Atlantic trade, the port said Dec. 7.
SC Ports moved 207,066 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) at the Wando Welch and North Charleston terminals throughout November, the highest November throughput on record for SC Ports. This number represents a 12% increase on the year.
"SC Ports is well-positioned to handle increasing cargo volumes brought on by both the ongoing recovery and the booming Southeast market," said Jim Newsome, President and CEO of the South Carolina Ports Authority in a statement Dec. 7.
"Consumer demand remains healthy, seen with loaded imports up nearly 13%," the port said.
Platts Container Rate 5 – North Asia to East Coast North America – remained steady at $4,800/FEU on Dec. 7.
SC Ports have handled just over 2.1 million TEUs in the January-November period.
