Wisconsin Access Project startup expected in 2022
Meter, compressor, horsepower upgrades planned
Houston — TC Energy is moving forward with its Wisconsin Access Project to increase natural gas capacity to utilities serving the US Midwest, the Canadian pipeline operator said Oct. 29.
The $200 million in improvements to a segment of its ANR Pipeline system will provide approximately 72 MMcf/d of firm transportation service under long-term contracts.
The work involves meter station upgrades, compressor station modifications and horsepower replacements at existing facilities in Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri and Kansas. Startup is expected during the second half of 2022, TC Energy said in a statement as it released third-quarter financial results.
In July, TC Energy sanctioned its $400 million Elwood Power/ANR Horsepower Replacement Project that is also expected to increase reliability on the ANR system and support new service for power generation.
ANR Pipeline delivers gas from Texas, the Oklahoma panhandle region, and Louisiana to the Midwest and Great Lakes regions of the US. One segment runs from Texas, while the other runs from Louisiana. They converge near Chicago.
The system delivers more than 1 Tcf of natural gas annually, with a peak-day delivery capacity of more than 6 Bcf/d, according to TC Energy.
TC Energy's network of pipelines supply more than 25% of the gas consumed daily across North America. The company also operates oil and liquids pipelines and power and storage infrastructure.
