London — Refinery: Grangemouth, Scotland, UK
Owner: Petroineos
Overall capacity: 195,700 b/d
A fire broke out at a flaring facility in the jetty area of Scotland's Grangemouth refinery Thursday, but was extinguished "quite quickly" and operations "stabilized," a spokesman for joint venture partner Ineos said.
The refinery facilities themselves were not damaged in the incident, which centered on the "ground flaring" facility designed to "purge" flammable gases, the spokesman told S&P Global Platts.
In a statement, Ineos said: "An operational incident within our Ground Flaring facility at the West Jetty of the Grangemouth complex occurred this morning. All personnel are safe. As per normal procedure, our incident management and emergency response teams were mobilized."
"Operations have been stabilized and the emergency services have been stood down," the statement said, adding that Ineos apologized for any concern caused.
