Vale paralyzes trains near the Mariana Complex impacting production

Highlights

Estimated impact of 33,000 mt/day of iron ore fines

Xingu Dam remains at level 2 of the Emergency Action Plan for Mining Dams

Brazilian mining company Vale informed June 4 that it has paralyzed train circulation on the Fábrica Nova branch of the Vitória Minas Railroad (EFVM), located in the Mariana Complex, following the regional labor interdiction of activities in areas close to the Xingu dam, at Alegria Mine.

The measure will prevent the flow of material produced at the Timbopeba Plant during the interdiction and, as a consequence, will lead to a temporary production halt at the unit, with an estimated impact of 33,000 mt/day of iron ore fines.

Additionally, some of Mina Alegria's internal accesses were closed, with partial impacts on the plant's production, estimated at 7,500 mt/day of iron ore fines.

Vale said it was taking all the necessary measures to resume activities as soon as possible, focusing on the necessary precautions to ensure the safety of employees and the communities located around its structures.

The miner emphasized that the Xingu Dam remains at level 2 of the Emergency Action Plan for Mining Dams (PAEBM), in which there is no imminent risk of rupture, and the structure's safety conditions remain unchanged.

"The Xingu dam is monitored and inspected daily by a specialized technical team and is included in the company's dam decharacterization plan," said the company.

The Xingu Dam Self-Rescue Zone remains evacuated, with no permanent presence in the area.

There were no details provided on the reasons under the interdiction.
