Vietnam's Xuan Thanh Cement receives EPD certification for cement, clinker products

Vietnam's Xuan Thanh Cement has received an Environmental Product Declaration certificate for its cement and clinker product lines, a company source told Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, Nov. 4.

The certification from EPD International AB (Sweden), granted Oct. 31, highlights the company's commitment to environmental transparency and sustainable development within Vietnam's construction materials sector, the source said.

The EPD certification provides independently verified environmental data covering the full life cycle of a product, from raw material extraction to production, transportation, use and disposal. It is based on life cycle assessment principles and complies with ISO 14025 standards, according to a statement on the company's website.

The move aligns Xuan Thanh's products with international green building standards, including the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method. It also serves as a key credential for entering markets with strict environmental and emissions requirements, such as Europe, the US, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand, it said.

Xuan Thanh Cement had earlier earned the Singapore Green Building Product certification from the Singapore Green Building Council, which assesses materials based on energy efficiency, emission reduction, resource management and life cycle impact. To meet these benchmarks, the company uses FLSmidth (Denmark) technology and implements rigorous quality and energy management systems to minimize environmental impact and comply with international "green" criteria.

"Achieving these new certifications is a new recognition, which can support Xuan Thanh's presence in all the markets," a Southeast Asia–based producer said.

Platts assessed cement (ASTM type I) FOB Vietnam at $35.75/mt on Oct. 30, slightly higher than $35.25/mt week over week. Platts assessed cement clinker FOB Vietnam at $30/mt on Oct. 30, up from $29.25/mt FOB week over week.
