HIGHLIGHTS
Cement output up 5.6% on year
Imports fall 41.14% on year
Peru's cement industry supplied 1.174 million metric tons of cement domestically in September, up 10.23% year over year, according to the Association of Cement Producers, or ASOCEM.
Cement production in September totaled 1.054 million mt, up 5.63% year over year. However, clinker production fell 9.97% to 668,000 mt.
Peru also imported 12,602 mt of cement in September, down 41.14% year over year, with cargoes primarily sourced from Chile (67.1%) and Bolivia (32.8%). While domestic clinker production declined, clinker imports rose 90.47% year over year to 160,807 mt, with South Korea (38.4%), Vietnam (37.5%) and Ecuador (24.0%) the key suppliers.
According to ASOCEM, the average CIF cost of imported clinker was $51/mt through the port of Callao, $55/mt through Matarani and $57/mt through Pisco.
Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, last assessed Clinker FOB Vietnam at $29.25/mt on Oct. 23.
