Cinis Fertilizer’s fully sells first batch of SOP from Ornskoldsvik in Sweden

Van Iperen International, the distributor of sulfate of potash from Cinis Fertilizer’s new Ornskoldsvik production facility in Sweden, said Sept. 20 that it has fully sold the plant's initial shipment of 3,500-4000 metric tons of product for October delivery.

“The vessel with SOP is on its way to the Netherlands. We [have] sold [the product onboard] with the expected price levels to approximately 25 countries for delivery in October,” Van Iperen Managing Director Erik van den Bergh said.

Sources said that prices are in line with current European price levels for water soluble fertilizers, at around Eur650-670/metric ton on a FOB basis, although Van Iperen declined to comment on this.

"This first shipment marks a significant milestone in the fertilizer industry's journey to become more sustainable," Cinis Fertilizer CEO Jakob Liedberg told S&P Global Commodity Insights. "We will be increasing deliveries during the fall."

Earlier this week, Van Iperen said it had started offering SOP from the first shipment, which included both on-spec and off-spec product, to customers worldwide.

All of the off-spec material has been sold too as a raw material to fertilizer producers, Van den Bergh said.

Platts, part of Commodity Insights, last assessed Western European standard SOP at $589-$656/mt FOB on Sept. 17.
