Japan will likely need a sharper greenhouse gas emissions cut for 2035 as the country weighs a new target, following the necessity of a 60% GHG emission cut by that year as recognized at COP28, accelerating the country's target of a 46% GHG cut by 2030, to reach 2050 carbon neutrality.
