Ford to build complex in US to produce electric F-150 truck

Ford plans to construct an electric vehicle manufacturing facility at its Rogue Complex in Michigan, where it will produce an all-electric F-150 model pickup truck by mid-2022, the company said Sept. 17.

Ford plans to invest $700 million in the Dearborn, Michigan, complex to produce the first all-electric F-150, marking the first electrified version of the top selling vehicle in the US.

Once complete, the plant will add 300 jobs to support battery assembly and production, Ford said.

The all-electric F-150 will debut new technology that allows for mobile power generation so customers can use their trucks as a power source, Ford said.

By the end of 2020, Ford expects to be up to 15 electrified vehicle models, accounting for nearly 10% of fourth-quarter 2020 wholesale volumes, the company said in its second-quarter financial results.

Ford previously said it would invest $11.5 billion through 2022 in electric vehicle technology and production.
