Solar added 2.5 GW in first five months 2021
Wind falls behind, only 832 MW added YTD
Solar set to top German power mix in June
Some 403 MW of solar and 91 MW of onshore wind capacity were added in Germany in May, data from grid regulator BNetzA showed June 30.
This brings the total for the first five months to around 3.3 GW.
Solar additions in May were the lowest since February, but the sector continues to grow at its fastest rate since 2012.
Total installed solar capacity has rise above 56 GW.
Solar output in June is set for a record-high generating almost 8 TWh, topping Germany's monthly power mix alongside lignite coal, TSO data aggregated by Fraunhofer ISE show.
Onshore wind saw some 832 MW added year-to-date with the sector only slowly recovering from a record-low in 2019.
May additions were the lowest so far this year bringing total installed capacity to around 55.5 GW.
Wind generation (including some 7.8 GW offshore) in June is set to fall some 30% on year to around 4.5 TWh, the lowest June output since 2016.
Renewables' share in the German power mix fell to 43% the first six months compared to a record 51% in Q1 2020, BDEW data show.
