Total acquires Global Wind Power France

London — Total has bought Global Wind Power France, a company with a 1 GW portfolio of onshore wind projects, the French oil and gas company said Friday.

This is Total's second move in the renewables space in as many days, the company having taken a majority stake in the Erebus floating wind project in the Celtic Sea on Thursday.

GWP France is to be incorporated in Total Quadran, Total's renewable developer and producer in France. Total didn't provide acquisition price of the deal.

"Following Vents d'Oc' acquisition in 2019, this new investment demonstrates Total's commitment to expand in all types of renewable energy while contributing to France's energy transition goals," said Philippe Sauquet, President Gas, Renewables and Power at Total.

Some 250 MW of GWP France's portfolio is scheduled to come on stream by 2025.

Total Quadran has nearly 1 GW of installed and operated renewable energy capacity, including over 500 MW of onshore wind. In France it has 900 MW across 300 sites, generating 1.765 TWh/year.

Total's gross low-carbon power generation capacity is close to 7 GW, of which more than 3 GW from renewable energy sources.

It has announced 5 GW of solar projects since the beginning of 2020, and aims for 25 GW of renewable capacity by 2025.

On Thursday, Total announced it had taken an 80% stake in a planned floating wind farm project in the UK from developer Simply Blue Energy.

The Erebus demonstration project will have a capacity of 96 MW and will be installed in the Celtic Sea offshore Wales at a water depth of 70 meters.
