Projectin early planning stage; land rights secured
Involves nine phases through to 2031
Eurowind Energy Romania plans to develop a massive 1.2 GW onshore wind project in Romania's Botosani region, bordering Ukraine and Moldova, it said March 5.
The initiative, currently in an early planning phase, has secured land use rights, submitted grid connection applications and obtained the initial urban planning certificate.
The project involves the phased construction of nine wind farms, with a construction schedule that extends until around 2031.
"With an estimated total investment of over Eur1 billion, this wind complex could not only strengthen Romania's renewable energy capacity but allow the country to become a major energy exporter in the region," said Adrian Dobre, Eurowind country manager for Romania.
The next essential step is to initiate dialogue with local communities, authorities and stakeholders, it said.
These discussions will help define the project timeline, final design and technology selection.
Eurowind Energy Romania's priority continues to be the completion of a 60-MW solar farm at Teius and 48 MW of wind at Pecineaga near Constanta this year, adding to its three operational solar parks in the country.
Romania already hosts one of Europe's biggest onshore wind farms, the 600-MW Fantanele-Cogealac, commissioned in 2012.
Sector association WindEurope forecasts that 3 GW of onshore wind will come online in Romania over the next five years, lifting total installed capacity above 6 GW in 2030.
Romanian power for 2026 delivery settled March 5 on EEX at Eur98.60/MWh.
