Exports down 20.6% on month
India largest importer with 354,444 mt
Houston — US fuel-grade petcoke exports totaled over 2.1 million mt in August, down 20.6% from July, US Census data said Oct. 6.
Monthly fuel-grade petcoke exports were at their lowest since January 2013.
From the year-ago month, fuel-grade petcoke exports were down 29.2%, while over eight months exports totaled about 23 million st, up 3.1% compared to the year-ago period.
Combined calcined and non-calcined petcoke exports totaled 2.3 million mt, down 21.1% from July and down 28.7% from the year-ago month. Through August, total exports were 24.8 million mt, up 2.9% year on year.
Exports through the Port Arthur Census District totaled 544,311 in August, flat from the previous month and up 2.3% from the year-ago month.
August fuel-grade petcoke exports through Houston/Galveston totaled 541,168 mt, down 14.6% from July and down 28.9% year on year.
New Orleans exports totaled 337,302 mt, down 40.6% month on month and down 38% from August 2019.
India was the largest importer in August, taking 354,444 mt, down 20.7% from July and down 3.3% year on year.
Mexico followed, importing 283,736 mt, down 16.5% from the previous month and down 16.1% from the year-ago month.
Japan came third with imports totaling 215,562 mt in August, down 27.6% month on month and down 56.8% from August 2019.
