Winter temperatures in North Asia fell to their lowest in decades in early January, sending fuel demand for heating and power generation through the roof.
Shortages sent countries scrambling to shore up supplies, utilities were forced to switch to alternatives like fuel oil, heavy sweet crudes and a domino effect affected fuel supply in the rest of the region.
