September imports drop 43% on year

US remains sole supplier to Italy in September

After rising by sevenfold in the previous month, Italian petcoke imports dropped 65.8% on the month and 43.7% on the year in September, according to data from Italy's Ministry of Environment and Energy Security released Nov. 6, due to reduced demand from the country's end-users.

Italy's petcoke imports totaled 49,499 mt in September, according to the data.

Monthly imports were last higher in February, when Italy imported 160,029 mt of petcoke entirely from the US, ministry data showed.

In September, Italy imported petcoke solely from the US, with no shipments from other key suppliers like Spain, the UAE and Brazil.

The US supplied 49,499 mt in September. Since June, the US has been the sole source of Italian petcoke imports.

Combined imports from January to September totaled 673,875 mt, slightly down from 690,746 mt during the same period in 2023.

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, assessed CIF Turkey 5.5% sulfur petcoke prices at an average of $88.25/mt in September. Platts last assessed the CIF Turkey 5.5% sulfur petcoke price at $85/mt on Nov. 6.
