Lowest monthly output on record
Second consecutive month with no exports reported
Coal production in Alberta, Canada, dropped for the third consecutive month to 329,622 mt in April, Alberta Energy Regulator data showed June 16.
Output declined 30.9% from March 53% from the year-ago month.
It was the province's lowest output on record, according to AER data that goes back to 2009, and the second consecutive month on record with no bituminous output. Additionally, it was the tenth consecutive month without metallurgical production.
Cumulative subbituminous production through April was approximately 2.8 million mt, down 62.9% compared to the year-ago period.
In 2020, Alberta produced a 12-year low 7.8 million mt of subbituminous coal, down from 12.7 million mt in 2019.
According to AER data, exports remained at a 12-year low, with zero shipments in April for the second consecutive month.
