Weekly US coal train loadings average 78.2 trains/day, up 23 trains on year: STB

Weekly US coal train loadings averaged 78.2 trains/day for the week ended June 4, up 2.1 trains from the previous week and up 23 trains from the year-ago week, Surface Board Transportation data showed June 11.

Powder River Basin loadings rose 3.3 trains from the week before to 46.1 trains/d. Year on year, loadings jumped 10.4 trains.

Average loadings in the Central Appalachian basins remain flat with the week prior at 12.7 trains/day, and from the year-ago period, they were up 3.3 trains.

In other regions, loadings averaged 6.4 trains/day, up 1 train week on week and up 1.1 trains from the year-ago week.

Illinois Basin and Northern Appalachian loadings declined on week. IB loadings dropped 1.6 trains to 4 trains/day. From the year-ago week, IB loadings were up 1.7 trains.

In the NAPP region, loadings fell 0.7 train week on week to 9 trains/d, while year on year, they jumped 4.5 trains.
