Weekly US coal departures total 40, reach four-week high: cFlow

Houston — Weekly US coal ship departures totaled 40 in the week ended May 8, up two from the previous week and 11 above from the same week a year ago, cFlow, Platts trade flow software, data showed May 11.

While departures reached a four-week high, the departing laden and part-laden ships carried about 2.6 million dwt, up 11.6% from the week before.

Gulf Coast departures totaled 20, down one week on week, but up seven from the year-ago week.

The departing coal carriers held over 1.1 million dwt, down 14.3% from the previous week.

From the Gulf, five each departed to the Caribbean and Central America. Two carriers each left to Brazil, North Africa, the North Atlantic, and the UK-Continent, while one each went to Central Africa and the Mediterranean.

Departures off the Atlantic Coast rose by four week on week to 16, and up eight from the same week a year ago.

The ships carried about 1.2 million dwt, up 49.5% week on week.

Three ships departed to Central America, while two each went to the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp region, the North Atlantic, the Baltics, and the UK-Continent. One carrier each went to the Black and Caspian seas, Brazil, Canada, the Caribbean, and the Mediterranean.

Four coal carriers left from the West Coast, down one from the week before and down three from the year-ago week.

In the most recent week, the departing ships carried 219,673 dwt, up 30.3% from the previous week.

Three ships went to North Asia, while one went to Central America.
