Loadings jump 16.6 trains/day on year
CAPP loadings drive increase on week
Houston — Weekly US coal train loadings averaged 74.4 trains/day in the week ended April 16, up 2.4 trains/day from the previous week, Surface Transportation Board data showed April 23.
Loadings were at their highest in six weeks and up 16.6 trains/day from the same week last year.
In the Central Appalachian basin, average loadings rose the most week on week, up 1.8 trains to 13.8 trains/day. Year on year, they were up 3.5 trains/day,
Illinois Basin loadings averaged 5.3 trains/day, up 1.6 trains on the week and up 1 train from the same week last year.
Loadings in the Powder River Basin averaged 40.1 trains/day, down 0.3 trains from the week before and up 10.4 trains on the year.
Northern Appalachian loadings were 9.2 trains/day, down 1.4 trains from the previous week and up 2.3 trains on the year.
In other regions, loadings averaged 6 trains/day, up 0.6 trains week on week and down 0.6 trains from the year-ago week.
