PRB, IB loadings drive decline
Loadings down 3.1 trains/day on week
Houston — Weekly US coal train loadings averaged 70.8 trains/day in the week ended April 2, down 3.1 trains/day from the previous week and up 2.8 trains/day from the year-ago week, Surface Board Transportation Board data said April 9.
Weekly loadings were at their lowest in eight weeks, driven by declines in the Powder River Basin and the Illinois Basin.
PRB loadings dropped 2.9 trains/day week on week to 37.1 trains/day. From the year-ago week, they were up 1 train/day.
Average loadings in the IB were 3.8 trains/day, down 1.2 trains/day and down 0.7 train/day year on year.
In the Northern Appalachian basin, loadings averaged 11 trains/day, up 0.8 train/day from the week before and up 1.6 trains/day from the year-ago week.
Central Appalachian loadings averaged 12.5 trains/day, up 0.1 train/day week on week and down 0.1 train/day year on year.
In other basins, weekly loadings averaged 6.4 trains/day, up 0.1 from the previous week and up 1 train/day from the year-ago week.
