US Weekly AAR Data: US chemical shipments up 3% on the year

US rail car shipments of chemicals rose 3% on the year for the week ended July 10, Association of American Railroads data showed July 14.

US chemical rail cars totaled 31,220 for the week, compared with about 30,311 chemical rail cars during the same period in 2020. Year to date, US chemical rail cars totaled 875,377-- up 5.8% from the same period in 2020, at which point there were about 827,389 chemical rail cars for the year.

Canadian rail shipments of chemicals totaled 10,862 for the week ended July 10, down 4.5% from the same period in 2020. Year to date in Canada, rail cars totaled 335,630 up 3.4% on the year.
