New York — French-based adiponitrile producer Butachimie is to carry out a turnaround at its Chalampe site during July, the company told S&P Global Platts June 5.
The site, on the River Rhine in eastern France, is Europe's largest consumer of butadiene.
"Due to the market downturn related to COVID-19, Butachimie is bringing forward some maintenance activities that had been planned for later in the year," a company spokesman said.
The work is now scheduled to begin July 3 with a projected end date of August 7, a source close to the company said.
Butachimie produces 35% of the world's ADN, according to the company.
The company's site at Chalampe has continued to run throughout the coronavirus pandemic, but sources say it is running at rates of 50% or below.
