The PS25 Consortium said Jan. 27 it had made a formally commitment to participate in financing development of the recycling industry for polystyrene.
That included contributing financial assistance to building of the sector, guaranteed purchasing of recycled material and continuing work on packaging design to meet specifications of recyclers.
The move followed a feasibility study by the consortium that estimated over 100,000 mt per year of polystyrene in the French household market, with further volumes possible from industrial and commercial sectors.
PS25 referred to several expected recycling plants set to grow the extent of chemical and mechanical recycling over the next two years, including projects from major producers INEOS Styrolution and Trinseo.
The consortium is a French initiative representing companies using polystyrene packaging, including companies such as CITEO, and led by companies operating in the dairy sector.
