Platts will not proceed with proposed July 1 change to Middle East Gulf tanker assessments

Following extensive feedback on the proposal note published on June 10, 2026, Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, will not proceed with the proposed changes to its Middle East Gulf tanker assessments from July 1.

Feedback received during the consultation period showed strong support for maintaining the current methodology, given the evolving market dynamics in the region and the prospect of de-escalation of hostilities in the Middle East.

This applies to the following clean and dirty tanker assessments:

  • Clean LR1 AG -- Japan 55,000 mt (PFAEY10)
  • Clean LR2 AG -- Japan 75,000 mt (PFAMT00)
  • Dirty VLCC Persian Gulf–China 270,000 mt (AASLB00)
  • Clean LR1 AG–UK Continent 65,000 mt (PFAFA10)
  • Clean LR2 AG–UK Continent 90,000 mt (PFANT00)

Other Middle East Gulf tanker assessments, details can be found in Platts Global Freight Specifications Guide available here.

Platts will monitor market developments while continuing to gather feedback around its freight methodology, including the potential for launching additional freight

assessments. In the event of a change to the market situation in the Middle East Gulf, Platts may issue further methodological guidance via subscriber notes.
