Gas Crunch: the UK Faces a Rough Winter 2016-17

T he UK’s natural gas system faces the entire Winter 2016-17 delivery period without one its greatest assets – the Rough gas reservoir. Rough is not only the country’s largest natural gas storage facility, it accounts for about 75% of total UK gas storage capacity. At the same time, gas demand from the UK power sector is increasing as the country’s coal-fired generation fleet closes down.
