S&P Global Energy and GasHub Collaborate to Enhance Platts Price Assessments and Improve Natural Gas Price Transparency in Brazil
- GasHub spot-market data to support Platts Brazil pipeline price assessments
- Agreement improves transparency for Brazil’s developing gas market
HOUSTON and SÃO PAULO (Oct. 6, 2026) – S&P Global Energy, the leading independent provider of information, data, analysis, and benchmark prices for global commodity markets, and GasHub, a Brazilian digital marketplace for natural gas trading, today announced a data-sharing agreement to improve transparency and enhance Platts Brazil natural gas price assessments.
Under the agreement, Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, will receive anonymized market data from GasHub. The data expands Platts’ view of Brazilian spot-market activity and is available as an input to Platts natural gas price assessments for Brazil’s three major pipeline systems.
“Brazil’s expanding gas market needs domestic reference prices that reflect local trading conditions,” said Eric Brooks, Manager of Americas Gas Pricing at Platts. “GasHub’s marketplace data gives us another direct view of trading activity across TAG, NTS and TBG and strengthens the depth of data underpinning our assessments. Platts’ independent methodology remains the foundation of every assessment.”
"GasHub is focused on making Brazil's free gas market more liquid. Transparent reference prices are the first step: they build confidence, and confidence brings new participants and volume," said Antonio Quirino, CEO, GasHub. "Platts has a decades-long track record of building the price references behind the world's most liquid energy markets. Sharing anonymized market data from our platform brings that expertise to Brazil and gives the market an independent reference it can use."
Brazil’s gas market is developing rapidly, but independent domestic price references remain limited. Many supply contracts continue to be indexed to crude oil, increasing the importance of transparent local price assessments for supply negotiations, risk management, and investment planning.
Platts publishes weekly spot physical market price assessments for natural gas for each of Brazil’s three major pipeline systems: Transportadora Associada de Gás (TAG), Nova Transportadora do Sudeste (NTS) and Transportadora Brasileira Gasoduto Bolívia-Brasil (TBG), plus a national average. For each location, Platts publishes two prices: preço do gás (PG), representing the price of gas delivered into the pipeline including entry costs, and preço da molécula (PM), representing the price of the gas molecule excluding transportation costs. More details on Platts’ Brazil natural gas price assessments can be found in the launch subscriber note.
The assessments anchor Brazil Energy Trader, a weekly bilingual Platts report launched recently that delivers market-leading insights across the natural gas and power markets in Brazil. The report combines Brazilian natural gas, LNG and power price assessments with pipeline fundamentals, including TAG demand and linepack data, GUS purchases and sales, weekly natural gas dispatch data from Brazil’s National Electric System Operator (ONS), calculation-period prices used in distribution-company contracts, and weekly spot-gas and forward-power commentary.
The Brazil natural gas assessments are available in Brazil Energy Trader and to Platts Americas Gas and Power subscribers. The methodology and specifications guide is available here.
