One of our most critical priorities as a company is helping more people fully participate in the economy. According to the job training nonprofit Year Up, more than 5 million young adults are cut off from a path to a stable career by the “opportunity divide” – the gap between young people who have the skills, resources and support to take part in the global economy and those who are at risk of being left behind.
Year Up’s unique program connects promising young people with a 12-month learning program that includes rigorous skills training for in-demand jobs, soft skills development and a six-month internship with a corporate partner. S&P Global has brought Year Up participants into internships across the organization, where they have had the opportunity to gain an understanding of business operations, strategy, products and human resources.
Year Up hosts its training program in 35 locations across the Untied States, but the global pandemic forced the organization to quickly move its program entirely online. As part of the S&P Global Foundation’s support for the global response to COVID-19, a grant was awarded to assist Year Up’s national transition to a virtual training program.
A total of 44 Year Up interns have worked with S&P Global across our enterprise.
After completing an internship with S&P Global, Ojore Aluko was hired as People Agile Consultant. “I learned so much during my internship and I could not have imagined a better outcome than to be hired by S&P Global.
