Titan Mining Corp. withdrew layoff notices for 87 employees at its Empire State zinc mine in New York after a previously announced restructuring improved output and operating costs, Watertown Daily Times reported May 23.
The company earlier dismissed 108 workers in a bid to improve productivity. Since then, the mine's hoisted and milled tons, zinc grade and payable zinc pounds have been higher than expected, while direct operating costs have been lower than anticipated, the report said.
The mine's workforce currently stands at 91, and Titan Mining intends to hire add a limited number of workers shortly, the report added.
The company committed to continue developing the mine, with a revised life-of-mine plan expected later this year.
