Nuclear update: LaSalle 2 restart raises US output

Total U.S. nuclear plant availability regained some ground early Jan. 26 as it rose to 95.56%, up from 94.79% on Jan. 25 and also greater than the 91.78% reported on the same day a year ago.

Propping up total output was the return of Exelon Corp.'s LaSalle 2 in Illinois. The unit was operating at 25% power early Jan. 26 after being taken offline Jan. 23 "due to a Stator Water Cooling runback signal and a Turbine Bypass Valve opening."

In addition, PG&E Corp.'s Diablo Canyon 1 plant in California saw output increase from 55% on Jan. 25 to 100% on Jan. 26.
