Siemens Gamesa, Van Oord win contract for 383-MW Dutch nearshore wind farm

A consortium of Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA and Van Oord NV signed a conditional agreement to build a roughly 383-MW nearshore wind farm in the Frisian part of the IJsselmeer in the Netherlands.

The consortium, called Zuiderzeewind, expects to make a final investment decision on the Windpark Fryslân project in the third quarter of 2019. The project will feature 89 Siemens Gamesa SWT-DD130 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 4.3 MW. At completion, the facility would account for more than 70% of the province of Friesland's 2020 renewable energy target of 530 MW.

Construction is expected to begin this year and the project is anticipated to achieve full operations by 2021. The consortium will also be responsible for service operations for at least 16 years following completion, according to a news release.

Van Oord will design, manufacture and install the wind farm's foundations and cables, as well as deliver the equipment to install the turbines. Siemens Gamesa will be responsible for the design, fabrication, and commissioning of the turbines and the onshore substation at Breezanddijk on the Afsluitdijk.
