Report: Amazon to team up with cosmetic firms in Brazil

Amazon.com Inc. is partnering with Brazilian cosmetics firms Grupo Boticario and Natura Cosméticos SA to sell beauty products on the logistics platform the e-commerce giant is developing in Brazil, Reuters reported June 14, citing people familiar with the development.

In October 2017, the Seattle-based company expanded its offering in Brazil beyond books and streaming video to include electronic items sold by third-party vendors.

Amazon currently relies on third parties to deliver products sold on its Brazilian website. However, Amazon was reportedly planning to lease a 50,000-square-meter warehouse outside São Paulo in February, which indicated the company may soon start handling logistics operations by itself. Also, the company was in talks with Brazilian airline Azul SA for shipping goods in Brazil.

The company has held "hundreds" of meetings with potential sellers and suppliers regarding its business in Brazil and possible future plans, the e-commerce giant told Reuters in an emailed response, adding that it would not speculate about future plans.

One of the sources close to Natura said the company had a meeting with Amazon last week but was still considering the proposals. Another source told Reuters that Boticario might sell non-proprietary products such as Revlon Inc. on Amazon in Brazil and is not planning to sell proprietary brands "for now."

Natura and Boticario did not respond to the news agency for comment.
