The global oil and gas producer BP PLC agreed to supply larger volumes of renewable natural gas, or RNG, to Clean Energy Fuels Corp. to help meet demand growth from natural gas vehicle fleets.
The agreement would allow the company to flow more RNG to Clean Energy's fueling infrastructure, with supply coming from new RNG production facilities under construction or in development, according to an Oct. 11 news release. As part of the agreement, Clean Energy would share in the environmental credit revenues from the additional RNG volume.
RNG is derived from organic waste and is a clean fuel alternative for natural gas vehicles. Clean Energy boosted RNG sales to an expected 100 million gasoline equivalent gallons this year, from 22 million gasoline equivalent gallons in 2014, the company said.
Clean Energy is a provider of natural gas fuel and RNG fuel for transportation in the U.S. and Canada.
