Walmart names American Express exec as new chief customer officer

Walmart Inc. has appointed Janey Whiteside to the newly created position of chief customer officer for both Walmart U.S. and Walmart eCommerce U.S.

In a July 2 internal memo, Walmart U.S. president and CEO Greg Foran and e-commerce president and chief Marc Lore said Whiteside will assume her new position Aug. 1.

Walmart provided a copy of the memo to S&P Global Market Intelligence.

Whiteside, who was also appointed an executive vice president, spent two decades at American Express Co. in various areas, including relationship management, marketing and customer engagement.

Barbara Messing was appointed chief marketing officer and senior vice president.

Messing will be a member of Whiteside's team and will join Walmart in mid-August. She replaces Tony Rogers, who has joined the retailer's warehouse chain Sam's Club as its chief member officer.

Previously, Messing was the marketing chief of TripAdvisor Inc.
