Baker Hughes bags contract for enhanced oil recovery project in India

Cairn Oil & Gas, a vertical of Vedanta Ltd., granted Baker Hughes a contract to build 300 new wells and deploy a chemical enhanced recovery program to boost production at the Rajasthan area in India, according to an Aug. 9 release.

Baker Hughes will provide Cairn Oil & Gas with an integrated scope of oilfield services and equipment delivered in phases over the next 24 months to help unlock untapped reserves of the Mangala, Bhagyam and Aishwariya fields. In addition, the company will design an alkaline-surfactant-polymer flooding solution to enhance recovery from the existing wells.

"This is an important, strategic project that supports the Indian government's goals to reduce oil and gas imports and to enhance domestic energy production to meet growing requirements," said Ashish Bhandari, Baker Hughes' CEO for India and South Asia.

The project is slated to start by the second half and would last for three years. The contract's value has not been disclosed.
