W.Va. governor to grant $1M for laid-off coal miners

DemocraticGov. Earl Ray Tomblin will award a $1 million grant aimed at backing streamclean-up efforts in Boone, Logan and Mingo counties in West Virginia to aidcoal workers that have been made redundant, The Associated Press reported Sept.23.

Tomblinis scheduled to unveil the project on Sept. 23 at the Ralph R. Willis Careerand Technical Center in Logan, said the report, citing the state's Departmentof Environmental Protection.

InMarch 2015, the governor also signedthe Coal Jobs and Safety Actinto law, which is aimed at making changesinto the state's mining law.
