Report: Sonos sues Google over alleged patent infringement

Speaker company Sonos Inc. sued Google LLC in two federal court systems, accusing the Alphabet Inc. unit of infringing on five of its patents, The New York Times reported.

Sonos, which makes wireless home speakers, sued Google in Federal District Court in Los Angeles and at the U.S. International Trade Commission, alleging that Google knowingly copied its patented technology, including "technology that lets wireless speakers connect and synchronize with one another."

Sonos is seeking financial damages as well as a ban on the sale of Google's smartphones, laptops and smart speakers in the U.S. According to the report, the two companies teamed up in 2013 after Sonos gave Google engineers detailed diagrams of its speakers. Sonos executives also reportedly discovered Inc.'s Echo speakers had copied the company's technologies.

A Google spokesperson said the companies discussed intellectual property for years. However, Sonos CEO Patrick Spence said, "Google has not shown any willingness to work with us on a mutually beneficial solution."
