EDF Renewables-led consortium to build 800-MW solar project in Morocco

A consortium consisting of EDF Renewables Inc., Masdar and Green Energy of Africa won a tender to build the 800-MW Noor Midelt 1 solar project in Morocco.

The $781.5 million solar facility, called Noor Midelt 1, was awarded by the Moroccan agency for sustainable energy, or Masen, and is funded by the European Investment Bank, the French Development Agency, the European Commission, the World Bank, the African Development Fund and the Clean Technology Fund, Reuters reported May 22, citing Masen.

Morocco installed 1,215 MW of wind, 1,770 MW of hydro and 700 MW of solar energy by the end of 2018, according to official figures.

EDF Renewables is a subsidiary of Electricité de France SA.
