NextEra Energy Resources LLC signed a 15-year contract with Iron Mountain Inc., a provider of storage and information management services, for 145 MW from the Pretty Prairie wind farm in Reno County, Kan.
The NextEra Energy Inc. subsidiary will build and operate the project, which is expected to achieve commercial operations by the end of 2019, according to an Oct. 17 news release.
NextEra Energy in July renamed the Silverlake Wind Energy Center to Pretty Prairie wind project, with a planned capacity of 220 MW, according to a report from The Hutchinson (Kan.) News.
The power contract, along with other similar purchases, will help Iron Mountain exceed 75% global renewable electricity usage in 2018 and move the company closer to its goal of 100% renewable power by 2050. Iron Mountain also agreed to set aggressive science-based targets for carbon reduction in alignment with the Paris Agreement on climate change.
