Italian consumer confidence, business sentiment rally in December

Consumer confidence and business sentiment in Italy both improved in December as all component indexes registered increases, data from the country's National Institute of Statistics showed.

The consumer confidence index rose to 110.8 from a revised 108.6 in November, compared with a consensus estimate of economists polled by Econoday for a reading of 109.7.

The economic climate index improved to 120.7 from 116.5; the current climate measure rose to 108.8 from 106.8 and the index gauging personal economic climate increased to 106.8 from 105.8.

The business confidence index rose to 100.7 from 99.2. Confidence in manufacturing improved to 99.1 from 99.0 while confidence in construction reached 140.1 from 137.1. The market services confidence index rose to 102.2 from 99.7 and the retail trade index improved to 110.9 from 108.3.
