Netflix sues SK Broadband over network usage fees – Yonhap

The South Korean unit of Netflix Inc. sued internet services provider SK Broadband over network usage fees, Yonhap News Agency reported April 14, citing unnamed sources.

Netflix Services Korea Ltd. urged a Seoul court to rule that it is not liable to pay costs for using SK Broadband's network. The streaming provider earlier argued that the SK Telecom Co. Ltd. affiliate already charges fees to its customers.

SK Broadband reportedly said it will review the lawsuit. The company earlier asked the Korea Communications Commission to mediate its dispute with Netflix over sharing the costs of maintaining network traffic.

Netflix offered to install its open connect appliances for free to help decongest data traffic, but SK Broadband said using such servers is a different issue, according to Yonhap.
