What are trade statistics?

Imports and exports merchandized trade data by product commodities and country markets. Trade statistics measure trade flow by value and volume; and is published on a monthly basis.

Also known as global trade - it is the import export flow of goods and services between countries.

What is bilateral trade?

Is the exchange of goods between two countries which encourages trade, investment and economic growth. The two countries will reduce or eliminate tariffs, import quotas, export restraints, and other trade barriers to encourage trade and investment.

What are Harmonized Standard (HS) codes?

Administered by the World Customs Organization (WCO) - Harmonized Standard codes is a numerical method of classifying traded products. HS codes are used by customs authorities to identify products when assessing duties, taxes and gathering statistics.

What is a trade war?

A trade war happens when one country retaliates against another by raising import tariffs or placing other restrictions on the other country's imports.

Mabel is the Executive Director of trade data tools product management at S&P Global Market Intelligence. She is responsible for the vision and roadmap of the Panjiva and Global Trade Analytics Suite product portfolio, inclusive of Global Trade Atlas (GTA), PIERS bill of lading, and GTA Forecasting products. Mabel partners with executives and businesses of all sizes to identify growth opportunities, reduce supply chain risk and assess markets. She has a passion for developing strong business relationships with customers to solve practical problems. Mabel has an extensive international trade background, prior to joining S&P Global, she spent ten years at the shipping line industry where she was responsible for new market analytics and research initiatives.Mabel has an MBA and a Juris Doctor from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Tim McLaughlin

Tim leads the Trade Analytics product portfolio within the Maritime, Trade & Supply Chain division at S&P Global Market Intelligence, and a global pre-sales engineering team called Industry Solutions. He is responsible for the product development for our Global Trade Analytics Suite product portfolio, inclusive of Global Trade Atlas (GTA), PIERS bill of lading, and GTA Forecasting products.In addition to his product management duties, Tim oversees a global team of subject matter experts whose primary focus is to serve top accounts within the Maritime, Trade & Supply Chain business and support revenue generating activities. His teams' partner with executives and businesses of all types and sizes to identify growth opportunities, reduce supply chain risk and assess global markets. He has a passion for business process improvement and project management, often leading projects to improve internal processes through increased automation and outsourcing.Prior to joining S&P Global, Tim spent five years as a Business Process Consultant at the world's largest pre-employment screen company. He has a bachelor's in criminal justice from Pace University in Westchester New York.

Jeremy Domballe

Jeremy works within the Industry Solutions team. A highly specialised unit with deep understanding of the divisions data assets and solutions, industry and use cases as to be able to partner with executives and businesses of all sizes around the world to identify growth opportunities, reduce global supply chain risk, assess markets, as well as assisting in providing transparency in the Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) space, as well as risk & compliance within shipping.He adds particular expertise in the area of maritime risk and compliance, whereby his analysis of deceptive shipping practises and illicit trading have helped to identify high risk assets and related entities. He has been featured in several webinars, reports and podcasts which vary in theme, but include topics such as Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing, Sanctions evasion, and the impact of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, as well as writing several blog articles. Jeremy has six years of experience in the industry with a history of client support.He holds a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Hazards & Disaster Management, graduating from Kingston University, London and is fluent in French.
