PDFTron Systems Inc., which provides document processing tools for software developers, secured a $71 million investment led by Boston-based growth equity firm Silversmith Capital Partners.

Silversmith Managing Partner Jim Quagliaroli and General Partner Sri Rao have joined PDFTron's board, according to a May 16 news release.

PDFTron will use the investment to support its research and development initiatives and product development resources and pursue acquisitions in North America and Europe.

Vancouver, Canada-based PDFTron provides developer tools for enterprise PDF software solutions.

Choate Hall & Stewart and the Canadian office of Gowling WLG were legal counsel to Silversmith Capital Partners, while Fasken Martineau DuMoulin and Perkins Coie were legal counsel to PDFTron. Deloitte Canada was the exclusive financial adviser to PDFTron.
